Sharing with you an easy-to-make recipe of Banana Appam (South Indian sweet) and here begins my experiment with South Indian cuisine. This dish that I am sharing here is actually not authentic but tastes really good. It makes for a good tea time snack..
Ingredients :2 Nos. Ripe bananas2 tspn thick Curds1/2 tspn Baking powder2 tbspns SugarApprox 1 cup All Purpose Flour or Maida 1/2 tspn Cardamom powderSalt to taste
Oil or Ghee for frying
Method :
Take ripe bananas in a bowl. Mash it and add salt, sugar and curd. Whisk it. Add all purpose flour till you get the consistency of Idli batter. Then add baking powder to the banana mixture. Allow it to rest for 6-7 hours. The flour will rise during this period. Before making appam add cardamom powder and mix it with the batter.
Heat appam maker on medium flame. Add some ghee or oil into the pan to grease it. Pour a tablespoon of batter into the pan. Cook from both the sides till appam turns golden brown in colour. Then remove it from the flame. Serve hot.
Notes :You may add dry-fruits of your choice to make the dish more richIf the batter is too thin, it may require more oil / ghee to cook. If the batter is too thick, it may not cook properly from inside and the cover of the appam may become hard.
