With Diwali days approaching fast, I thought why not try some diwali faraal. So I tried making wheat flour chakali that can be quickly made with just few ingredients that are easily available at home. Although the traditional chakalis are made from Chakali Bhajani, the given method is also a traditional way of making instant chakalis.
Ingredients :1 cup wheat flour
1/2 tsp red chilly powder
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1/2 tsp carom seeds (Ajwain / Owa in marathi)
1 tspn seasme seeds
a pinch of asafoetida
salt to taste
water as required
Preparation :Mix all the dry ingredients (except water)
Tie the dry mixture in a cotton cloth
Steam it in a pressure cooker or steamer for 15 minutes
After steaming add some water to it
Knead it into soft dough
Divide it into 2-3 cylindrical shapes
Stuff it into Chakali Maker
Press the chakali maker and move it in circular motion
Simultaneously heat oil in a kadai
Deep fry chakalis on medium flame till it turns golden
Drain it on tissue paper to remove excessive oil
Preserve it in airtight container
Notes :Chakalis can be stored for 15-20 days
You may change the prportion of spices given above as per the taste
The above portion of ingredients yeild 12-15 chakalis
